The Mastercard Foundation Fund for Rural Prosperity (FRP) was a US$50 million, seven-year challenge fund that ran from 2015 to 2022. Established by the Mastercard Foundation, its core mission was to stimulate the private sector to develop and scale innovative financial solutions that improve the lives of the rural poor, particularly smallholder farmers, across Sub-Saharan Africa. The Fund operated through a series of competitive selection processes, providing financial grants to companies with promising business models that aimed to enhance financial inclusion by addressing the systemic barriers faced by rural communities.
