Founded in 2016 by Max Kordek and Oliver Beddows, Lisk is an open-source blockchain project focused on accessibility. Its core product is the Lisk SDK, which allows developers to build scalable blockchain applications in JavaScript, one of the most widely used programming languages. Historically a Layer 1 platform using a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism, Lisk has evolved its strategy and is transitioning to become an Ethereum Layer 2 solution, aiming to bring lower transaction costs and scalability to the broader Ethereum ecosystem. The project is overseen by the Lisk Foundation, a non-profit entity based in Switzerland.
