Launched in 2019, IngenioRx was the in-house pharmacy benefit manager for Anthem, Inc. (now Elevance Health), one of the largest health insurance providers in the United States. Its mission was to manage pharmacy costs and improve health outcomes by negotiating drug prices with manufacturers, creating drug formularies, and processing prescription claims for millions of members. IngenioRx was created to replace Anthem's previous contract with Express Scripts, aiming for greater cost transparency and clinical expertise. As part of a broader corporate rebranding, IngenioRx was renamed CarelonRx on January 1, 2023, and now operates under the Carelon brand, which consolidates the parent company's healthcare services capabilities.
