Established in 1991 by the Horry County Council, the Solid Waste Authority (SWA) is a public agency tasked with providing an integrated solid waste management system for the citizens and businesses of Horry County. Overseen by an appointed Board of Directors, its mission is to offer environmentally sound, safe, and cost-effective waste management services. These services include the operation of the county landfill, management of 24 residential recycling and convenience centers, promotion of recycling and waste reduction programs, and public education on environmental stewardship.
