Grupo Financiero Banrural, S.A. was established in 1997 as the Banco de Desarrollo Rural (Banrural) with a mission to promote economic and social development, primarily in the rural areas of Guatemala. It has since grown to become one of the largest financial conglomerates in the country, offering a wide array of services through its subsidiaries, including commercial and retail banking, insurance (Aseguradora Rural), and financing (Financiera Rural). The group is characterized by its extensive network of branches and service points, aiming to provide financial inclusion and support to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises across Guatemala and more recently in Honduras.
