Founded in 1985 by physicians and hospitals in Amarillo and Lubbock, Firstcare Health Plans was a non-profit organization dedicated to providing Texans with accessible and affordable health insurance options. With a mission to be the health plan of choice for its communities, it focused on serving members in West and Central Texas. In 2019, Firstcare was acquired by Scott and White Health Plan, part of Baylor Scott & White Health. It now operates as a legacy brand within the Baylor Scott & White Health Plan system, continuing to serve its existing members.
