The Deposit Protection Fund of Uganda (DPF) is a Ugandan government agency established as a separate legal entity by the Financial Institutions (Amendment) Act of 2016. It commenced operations on July 1, 2017, taking over the responsibilities of the deposit protection function previously managed by the Bank of Uganda. The DPF's primary mandate is to act as a deposit insurance scheme for customers of regulated deposit-taking institutions, ensuring that depositors are paid their protected deposits in a timely manner in the event a contributing institution is closed. This function promotes public confidence in the Ugandan financial system and contributes to overall financial sector stability.
