Founded in Shanghai in 1929, China Taiping is one of the oldest national insurance brands in China and is currently one of the four state-owned insurance groups managed by the central government. Its subsidiary, China Taiping Insurance Holdings Company Limited (HKEX: 0966), was the first Chinese-funded insurer to be listed on an overseas stock exchange in 2000.
