Caixa FGTS
Information by Research TrustFinance
The "Fundo de Garantia do Tempo de Serviço" (FGTS) is not a standalone company, but a mandatory fund established by the Brazilian government in 1966 to protect workers dismissed without just cause. Caixa Econômica Federal (CAIXA) is the exclusive government-appointed operating agent responsible for managing all FGTS accounts. Its mission is to centralize and manage the monthly deposits made by employers on behalf of their employees, ensuring these funds are available to workers under specific circumstances, such as termination, retirement, or for purchasing a home. CAIXA manages the fund's assets, individual accounts, and processes all deposits and withdrawals according to federal law.
