The institution was formed through the 2021 merger of Broadway Federal Bank (founded in 1946 in Los Angeles) and City First Bank (founded in 1998 in Washington, D.C.). As a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), its mission is to close the racial wealth gap by providing access to capital and depository services to underserved, low-to-moderate-income communities, primarily in Southern California and the Washington, D.C. metro area.
