BankAtlantic
Information by Research Trustfinance
BankAtlantic was a prominent financial institution headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was once one of the largest banks operating in the state. Founded and led by chairman Alan B. Levan, the bank focused on providing a range of personal and commercial banking services, including deposits, loans, and wealth management, primarily to the Florida market. In 2012, facing challenges from the 2008 financial crisis, BankAtlantic sold its core banking operations, including its branches, deposits, and most of its loan portfolio, to BB&T Corporation. The remaining parent company, BankAtlantic Bancorp, was subsequently rebranded as BBX Capital Corporation, shifting its focus to real estate, private equity, and other investments.
