Originally founded as Aqualis ASA and listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange, the company was a specialized marine and offshore engineering consultancy. In 2019, Aqualis ASA merged with Braemar Shipping Services' technical divisions—Braemar Technical Services, Braemar NAVES, and Braemar Adjusting—to create a new entity named AqualisBraemar. In late 2020, to reflect its growing diversification across energy and oceans, AqualisBraemar rebranded to ABL Group (Acona Blaikie Lybæk & Associates). Today, ABL Group operates as a leading global independent energy and marine consultant, providing services to the renewables, maritime, and oil and gas sectors.
