Founded in 1994 as Accion Chicago, the organization expanded its service area in 2017 and rebranded to Accion Serving Illinois & Indiana. It is a U.S. Treasury-certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and part of the national Accion Opportunity Fund network. The company's mission is to provide capital, coaching, and connections to underserved entrepreneurs, with a focus on those owned by women, people of color, and individuals from low-to-moderate-income backgrounds, to help them build and grow their businesses.
