Founded in Spain in 2015, Verse was a financial technology company that operated a mobile app for easy and instant peer-to-peer (P2P) payments. The company's mission was to make sending and receiving money as simple as sending a text message. In 2020, Verse was acquired by Square (now Block, Inc.), the parent company of Cash App, to help expand its presence in Europe. Despite the acquisition, Verse continued to operate as a standalone app. However, in mid-2023, Block announced the decision to shut down Verse to focus its resources on other core products, and the service officially closed on September 13, 2023.
