From 1978 to 2013, the Netherlands Institute for Media Art (NIMk) was an internationally recognized institution based in Amsterdam that served as a museum, knowledge center, and distribution platform for media art. Its mission was to promote the development, application, and distribution of, and reflection on, new technologies in the visual arts. In early 2013, NIMk closed its doors, and its core tasks, particularly the preservation and distribution of its extensive collection of video and media art, were transferred to and are now managed by the new organization LIMA.
