Originally chartered in 1951 as Weirton Steel Federal Credit Union to serve the employees of Weirton Steel Corporation, the institution was renamed Steel Strong Community Federal Credit Union in 2007. As a community-chartered credit union, its mission is to provide members with competitive financial services and products in a friendly, professional manner while maintaining long-term financial stability. It operates as a not-for-profit cooperative, returning earnings to members in the form of higher savings rates, lower loan rates, and improved services.
