Founded in 2012 by Jon Vollemaere, R5FX was established to create a centralized, regulated marketplace for trading emerging market currencies. The company's mission was to improve liquidity, transparency, and efficiency in these traditionally fragmented markets. In 2017, the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) acquired R5FX to enhance its FX offering. The technology and liquidity pool of R5FX have since been fully integrated into LSEG's existing FX platforms, primarily FXall and Matching, to provide institutional clients with a comprehensive solution for global FX trading.
