Founded by Tomás Carruthers, Project Heather aimed to launch a Scottish Stock Exchange to serve the needs of Scottish businesses and investors. Its mission was to create a modern, regulated, and transparent marketplace for capital, with a unique focus on companies that demonstrated a positive social and environmental impact, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The project partnered with global exchange operator Euronext for its trading technology. Despite initial progress and backing, Project Heather failed to secure the necessary final round of funding to become operational, leading it to enter administration in late 2019 and was ultimately dissolved.
