Founded in 1874, National Penn Bancshares, Inc. operated as the bank holding company for National Penn Bank. It grew to become a significant financial institution in eastern and central Pennsylvania, offering a wide array of services including commercial and retail banking, wealth management, and insurance to individuals, businesses, and government entities. The company was headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania. In a deal announced in 2015 and completed on April 1, 2016, National Penn Bancshares was acquired by BB&T Corporation, which later merged to become Truist Financial.
