Founded in 2013 as an affiliate of Digital Currency Group (DCG), Genesis established itself as one of the first and largest institutional players in the digital currency market. The company provided a full suite of services for institutional investors and high-net-worth individuals, including over-the-counter (OTC) digital asset trading, institutional lending and borrowing, derivatives, and custody services. Following major losses from the collapses of Three Arrows Capital and FTX, the company halted customer withdrawals in late 2022 and its lending arm, Genesis Global Capital, LLC, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January 2023.
