Founded in 2021 by the province of Drenthe and its municipalities, the Drentse Energie Organisatie (DEO) is a foundation with the public mission of accelerating the local energy transition. The DEO actively develops, finances, and invests in a variety of sustainable energy projects, including solar, wind, and geothermal initiatives. It functions as a revolving fund, providing financing through loans, guarantees, and equity participation to local energy cooperatives, businesses, and other project developers, ensuring that the financial returns are reinvested into new sustainable projects within the Drenthe region.
