Its core business included short-term consumer loans, check cashing, pawn lending, and other financial services through a network of retail storefronts and online platforms. Historically, it operated well-known brands such as Money Mart®, The Money Shop®, Insta-Cheques®, and Loan Mart®. In 2014, the company was taken private by an affiliate of Lone Star Funds. Subsequently, the company underwent significant restructuring; its North American operations were rebranded and now operate as Purpose Financial, Inc., while its European arm (The Money Shop) was sold and later went into administration.
