Columbus Bank and Trust Company was founded in 1888 in Columbus, Georgia, and grew to become the lead bank and foundational element of its parent holding company, Synovus Financial Corp. For decades, it served its community with a range of personal, business, and wealth management services. In 2018, Synovus consolidated all of its separately chartered community banks, including Columbus Bank and Trust, under a single national charter, rebranding them all as "Synovus." Today, the legacy and operations of Columbus Bank and Trust continue under the Synovus Bank name, which provides comprehensive financial services across the Southeastern United States.
