Established in April 1880, Banca Națională a României (The National Bank of Romania - NBR) is the central bank of Romania and a member of the European System of Central Banks. Its primary objective is to ensure and maintain price stability. The NBR is responsible for defining and implementing the country's monetary policy, issuing the national currency (Romanian Leu), managing foreign exchange reserves, and authorizing, regulating, and prudentially supervising the Romanian banking system to ensure its stability.
