Founded in 1995, Otkritie Broker grew to become one of Russia's largest and most well-known brokerage companies, providing a wide range of investment services to retail and institutional clients, including access to Russian and international stock exchanges. Following the 2017 nationalization of its parent, Otkritie FC Bank, by the Central Bank of Russia, the entire banking group was sold to the state-owned VTB Bank in December 2022. Subsequently, a full integration process began, and on January 1, 2024, all client brokerage services of Otkritie Broker were officially transferred and merged into VTB My Investments, the brokerage division of VTB Bank. The Otkritie Broker brand is no longer in active use.

The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) has extended the ban on Igor Gutinskiy, director of Otkritie Broker Ltd, from managing the company for an additional six months due to concerns regarding the company's ties to Russia's Otkritie FC Bank. This ban follows earlier restrictions and aims to prevent Russian interests from dominating shareholder meetings. Otkritie Broker has faced scrutiny since its licensing in Cyprus in 2016, particularly in light of geopolitical tensions. The company voluntarily surrendered its CySEC license recently, following a trend of FX brokers leaving Cyprus, but clients remain protected under the Investor Compensation Fund.
