Founded in 2007 in Tartu, Estonia, Fortumo is a technology company that develops a platform for digital content and service providers for user acquisition, monetization, and retention. The company's primary service is direct carrier billing (DCB), which allows consumers to make purchases by charging payments to their mobile phone bill. Fortumo connects digital merchants, such as app stores (Google Play), streaming services (Spotify, Amazon), and game developers, to a global network of hundreds of mobile network operators. In July 2020, Fortumo was acquired by the UK-based mobile payments company Boku, Inc., and now operates as part of the Boku group.
