Blue sheets are formal requests for information sent by the SEC to financial institutions regarding specific securities or transactions, aimed at improving transparency and investigating irregularities in trading activities. Originally printed on blue paper, these requests are now sent electronically to facilitate timely information exchange. Failure to comply can result in fines from the SEC, as seen with major banks that have faced penalties for providing insufficient data.
