Founded in 2013, WeSwap pioneered a community-based, peer-to-peer (P2P) currency exchange model to help travelers avoid high fees and poor rates found at traditional banks and bureaus. The service provides users with a prepaid multi-currency card and a mobile app to manage their funds, load money, and swap between different currencies. In late 2020, the original company, WeSwap.com Ltd, went into administration but the brand, technology, and customer base were acquired. The service was relaunched in 2021 and is now operated by Valoot Technologies Ltd, an FCA-regulated Electronic Money Institution.
