WaveCrest Holdings Limited was a prominent financial services company and E-Money Institution (EMI) licensed by the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (FSC). Historically, its core business was issuing prepaid and debit cards on behalf of third-party program managers, and it became a critical infrastructure provider for the emerging cryptocurrency industry. The company enabled numerous crypto startups (like TenX, Wirex, and BitPay) to offer their users Visa-branded cards to spend digital assets in the real world. However, in January 2018, its primary business line was abruptly halted when Visa terminated its license due to compliance violations, effectively ending its role as a major card issuer in the fintech and crypto space.
