Founded in 2011 as a subsidiary of Vivint, Inc., Vivint Solar grew to become one of the top residential solar installers in the United States. The company specialized in designing, installing, and maintaining residential photovoltaic systems, primarily through power purchase agreements (PPAs) and lease financing models. After its IPO in 2014, it operated as a public company until it was acquired by its competitor, Sunrun, in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $3.2 billion in October 2020. Today, the operations, brand, and services of Vivint Solar have been fully absorbed into Sunrun, which continues the mission of creating a planet run by the sun by providing solar panels, home batteries, and energy services to homeowners across the country.
