Initially a corporate innovation of Rabobank in 2016, SurePay was established to combat the growing issue of online payment fraud. Now operating as an independent company, its core mission is to make payments safer and more personal. SurePay provides its "IBAN-Name Check" service to banks, financial institutions, and businesses, which cross-references the name of a beneficiary with their account number (IBAN) in real-time. This verification process gives payers an immediate warning if the details don't match, significantly reducing misdirected payments and authorised push payment (APP) fraud. The company has expanded from its home market in the Netherlands to the UK, France, and other European countries.
