Spire Bank

Spire Bank Limited, formerly known as Equatorial Commercial Bank (ECB), was a commercial bank headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. It was majority-owned by Mwalimu National Sacco, one of Kenya's largest savings and credit co-operative societies. The bank provided standard banking products, including savings and current accounts, personal and business loans, and asset financing. After facing prolonged financial difficulties and failing to meet minimum capital requirements set by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), Spire Bank's operations were acquired by Equity Bank Kenya Limited. The acquisition, completed on January 31, 2023, involved the transfer of certain assets and liabilities to ensure the protection of depositors and maintain stability in the financial sector.
