Confer Inc. was a venture-backed technology company that provided a sophisticated endpoint security platform for enterprises. Its core product, often referred to as an "endpoint detection and response" (EDR) solution, used a combination of lightweight sensors and cloud-based analytics to detect, prevent, and respond to advanced cyber threats and malware on laptops, servers, and other devices. Founded in 2013, Confer's mission was to provide a more effective and less intrusive alternative to traditional antivirus software. In 2016, the company was acquired by Carbon Black for approximately $100 million, and its technology became the foundation for the "Cb Defense" product line. Carbon Black was subsequently acquired by VMware in 2019.
