AmSouth Bancorp

Founded in 1872 as the First National Bank of Birmingham, AmSouth Bancorp grew to become one of the largest bank holding companies in the Southeastern United States. Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, the company provided a comprehensive range of financial services, including commercial and retail banking, trust, mortgage, and investment management services through its network of branches. In 2006, AmSouth announced a merger with Regions Financial Corporation in a deal valued at approximately $10 billion. Following the merger's completion, the AmSouth brand was phased out, and all its operations and branches were integrated into Regions Bank.
