Akaboxi

Akaboxi is a Ugandan-based fintech company focused on addressing the financial exclusion of rural smallholder farmers, who often lack access to formal banking. The company provides a physical, secure digital box ("Akaboxi") and a corresponding mobile application for Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs). This system allows community saving groups to digitally record and track their savings and loan activities securely. By creating a verifiable digital ledger, Akaboxi builds a financial identity for these farmers, making them "bankable" and enabling them to access credit, agricultural insurance, and better market opportunities from formal financial institutions. The company's mission is to empower farmers by bridging the gap between informal rural economies and the formal financial sector.
