Founded in 2014 by brothers Manuel and Dominic Heyden, nextmarkets GmbH, operating through its Malta-based entity nextmarkets Trading Ltd., positioned itself as a "new generation" online broker. Its mission was to simplify investing for retail clients by offering a platform for commission-free trading of over 7,000 stocks and 1,000 ETFs, as well as leveraged trading via CFDs on indices, forex, commodities, and cryptocurrencies. A unique feature was its "curated investing" concept, which provided users with free trading analysis and ideas from over a dozen professional market coaches directly within the platform. On November 16, 2023, the company announced it had voluntarily renounced its license with the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) and would cease to provide investment services.
