FirstMerit Bank

Founded in 1845, FirstMerit Corporation was a diversified financial services company that operated as a multi-bank holding company. Its primary subsidiary, FirstMerit Bank, N.A., offered a full range of banking, trust, and investment services to corporate, institutional, and individual customers. Before its acquisition, it was a significant regional player with approximately $26.2 billion in assets and nearly 400 branches across the Midwestern United States. In August 2016, FirstMerit was acquired by Huntington Bancshares Inc. in a $3.4 billion transaction, and its operations, branches, and accounts were subsequently merged into Huntington National Bank.
