Originally formed by Europay, Mastercard, and Visa, EMVCo is a global technical body that facilitates the worldwide interoperability and acceptance of secure payment transactions. Its primary mission is to manage, maintain, and enhance the EMV Specifications for payment cards, terminals, and mobile devices to ensure a unified and secure standard globally. EMVCo works with financial institutions, merchants, processors, vendors, and other industry stakeholders to develop specifications and testing processes that support technologies like chip cards, contactless payments, and payment tokenisation.
