Alerian is a prominent financial data and indexing firm specializing in North American energy infrastructure. Founded in 2004, the company established its reputation with the launch of the Alerian MLP Index (AMZ), the first real-time benchmark for Master Limited Partnerships (MLPs). Alerian's core business involves creating, calculating, and maintaining a suite of indexes that are licensed by asset managers and investment professionals to serve as the basis for investment products, such as exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and mutual funds. In 2022, Alerian and its parent company were merged with ETF Trends and ETF Database to form a new consolidated entity, VettaFi LLC, where Alerian now operates as a key brand for energy infrastructure and MLP indexing, data, and analytics.
