The Central Bank of Paraguay, established by Law 18/52 on March 25, 1952, serves as the nation's highest monetary authority, overseeing finances and economics within Paraguay. Its roles have evolved over the years, with a significant legal framework update occurring in 1995 through Law 489/95. This institution is responsible for the issuance, management, and regulation of the Paraguayan currency, the guaraní. It also plays a crucial role in promoting financial inclusion policies and is an active member of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion. Additionally, the Central Bank of Paraguay was among the first 17 regulatory bodies to make specific national commitments to financial inclusion under the Maya Declaration at the 2011 Global Policy Forum in Mexico.
