Ecsponent Limited was a JSE-listed financial services group that specialized in raising capital from the public, primarily through the issuance of high-yield preference shares. This capital was then used to fund a portfolio of credit and private equity investments. In 2020, after facing severe financial distress and being unable to meet its obligations to preference shareholders, the company entered business rescue. It was subsequently rebranded to Afristrat Investment Holdings Limited in an attempt to restructure. However, the rescue efforts failed, leading to the suspension of its shares on the JSE and ultimately a final liquidation order in August 2023.
