Validus Holdings, Ltd. was a Bermuda-based holding company for a group of insurance and reinsurance entities. Founded in 2005, it established itself as a major global provider of property and casualty reinsurance and insurance. Its primary subsidiaries included Validus Re (reinsurance), Talbot Underwriting (specialty insurance through Lloyd's of London), and Western World Insurance Group (U.S. excess and surplus lines). In July 2018, Validus Holdings was acquired by American International Group (AIG) for $5.56 billion and was integrated into AIG's General Insurance business. The core reinsurance operations continue under the name Validus Re, which is now the reinsurance brand of AIG.
