Originally founded as oekom research AG in 1993 in Germany, the company established itself as a leading global provider of ESG research and ratings. In March 2018, it was acquired by Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS), a prominent provider of corporate governance and responsible investment solutions to the financial community. Following the acquisition, oekom research was integrated into the broader ISS ESG brand, which now serves as the specialized business unit for all of ISS's responsible investment solutions. ISS ESG provides institutional investors with a wide range of services, including ESG ratings for corporate, sovereign, and green bond issuers, climate data and analytics, and other tools to help them integrate ESG factors into their investment decision-making and stewardship activities.
