Gearbox Protocol is a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform that offers generalized leverage, allowing users to borrow assets and use them across a wide range of other trusted DeFi protocols for trading, liquidity providing, or yield farming. Its mission is to enhance capital efficiency within the DeFi ecosystem by creating a composable "leverage-as-a-service" infrastructure. The protocol is governed by the Gearbox DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization), which uses the GEAR token for voting on protocol upgrades and parameters. The protocol first launched on the Ethereum mainnet in late 2021.
