Founded in 1994 by Father Joseph Philippe, Fonkoze (meaning "Shoulder to Shoulder" in Haitian Kreyòl) is a family of organizations working to combat poverty in Haiti. Its core entity, Sèvis Finansye Fonkoze (SFF), operates as a non-bank financial institution offering micro-credit, savings, and other financial services like insurance and money transfers. Fonkoze's mission is to empower Haitians, particularly women, with the tools and support needed to achieve economic independence through its unique "Staircase Out of Poverty" model, which combines financial services with business skills training, education, and health support.
