Founded in 2019, CoinFLEX (Coin Futures and Lending Exchange) was a centralized cryptocurrency exchange specializing in physically delivered futures and other derivatives. The platform aimed to provide a venue for institutional and retail traders to hedge crypto exposure. In June 2022, the company halted all customer withdrawals, citing extreme market conditions and a counterparty's failure to meet a margin call. This led to a significant shortfall, forcing the company to file for restructuring in a Seychelles court. In early 2023, the restructuring plan was approved, and the company's founders, along with the founders of the defunct hedge fund Three Arrows Capital, launched a new exchange, Open Exchange (OPNX), to trade bankruptcy claims, with CoinFLEX creditors receiving equity in the new entity and RV tokens.
