Citizinvestor was a pioneering crowdfunding platform founded in 2012, designed specifically to help citizens fund public projects in their local communities. The platform enabled local governments to post projects in need of funding—such as parks, public art, or new equipment—and allowed residents to contribute financially, essentially "investing" in their own neighborhoods. Its mission was to increase civic engagement and empower citizens to have a direct impact on the improvement of their communities, bridging the gap between government-identified needs and community-driven funding. The platform appears to have ceased operations around 2016.
