Founded in 2010, Cignifi Inc. pioneered the use of non-traditional data analytics to assess creditworthiness for unbanked and underbanked consumers in emerging markets. By partnering with mobile network operators, Cignifi analyzes anonymized mobile phone usage data (such as top-ups, voice calls, and data usage) to generate risk, credit, and marketing scores. This enables financial institutions to extend credit and other financial services to individuals without a formal credit history. In November 2016, Cignifi was acquired by FICO, the global analytics software company, to integrate its innovative mobile data analytics into FICO's credit scoring solutions.
