Established in 1828 as De Curacaosche Bank, it is the oldest central bank in the Americas. The CBCS's primary mission is to maintain the external stability of the Netherlands Antillean guilder (NAf) and to promote the proper functioning of the financial system in the countries of Curaçao and Sint Maarten. Its core tasks include managing monetary policy, supervising the financial sector (including banks, insurance companies, and pension funds), issuing banknotes and coins, and acting as the banker for the respective governments.
