Founded in 1878, Caja de Ahorros de Ávila was a regional savings bank ("caja de ahorros") that served the province of Ávila and surrounding areas in Spain. Its mission was focused on promoting savings and providing financial services to local families and businesses. As part of a major restructuring of the Spanish financial system following the 2008 crisis, Caja de Ávila merged with six other savings banks (including Caja Madrid and Bancaja) in 2010 to form the Banco Financiero y de Ahorros (BFA), which operated commercially under the brand name Bankia. In March 2021, Bankia was fully absorbed by CaixaBank, meaning all assets, operations, and legacy branches of Caja de Ávila are now part of CaixaBank.
